Almost that time again... salary survey time

Posted on 13:15 by Unknown
I will be posting the Salary Survey again soon (it is published in the September issue of AUGIWorld Magazine, so I like to take August to calculate the results, and run it for 6-8 weeks).

At any rate, as I mentioned in this post ( http://mistressofthedorkness.blogspot.com/2012/07/augi-2012-salary-survey-is-revamped.html ). Previously, I had between 10-15 questions, primarily focusing on salary, but, now:

This year's survey consists of 25 questions, roughly broken down into four areas:
  • Your demographic
  • Your role
  • Your company demographic
  • Your industry's state
As always, prior to launching the survey, I go back through all of the emails I've received regarding the survey for inspiration. BUT! if you take a look at the 2012 survey results and come up with any suggestions, now is the time to send them in to me (remember the FAQs, too).

And, don't forget, some of the other authors like to throw in additional information and advice on salaries and management cares. Have something specific you'd like to see in your favorite AUGIWorld column? Contact one of the Content Managers to make a suggestion. They have an 'editorial calendar' that gives them a specific theme to follow each month, but, for September, they and their authors can come up with their own ideas.
Oh, and a refresher on the questions (remember, it's always anonymous, in no way connected to your username):
Demographic
  •     What is your gender?
  •     What is your age?
  •     Where are you located?
  •     Where is your workplace located?
  •     What is the highest level of education you have completed?
  •     How many years have you worked in the industry?
  •     What is your annual salary? best estimate of your base pay, plus any normal bonuses, commissions and overtime.
  •     How has your salary changed in the past year?
  •     Have you experienced a change in employment in the past 12 months?
 Job
  •     Job Title
  •     Industry
  •     Markets Served / Specialties (if applicable, multiple selections allowed)
  •     What is your overall level of Job Satisfaction?
  •     How Secure do you feel your job is?
Company
  •     How many years have you worked for your current employer?
  •     How many people does your company employ?
  •     What is the average number of hours you work per week?
  •     What employee benefits are available to you?
  •     How did you find your current role?
Industry
  •     Has your company done any of the following in the past 12 months?
  •     If you are thinking about quitting your job, what factors played a role in your decision?
  •     Do you run CAD / BIM in the Cloud?
  •     (if applicable) What percentage of your company's projects are BIM?
  •     If you are using BIM, why?
  •     How connected are you? new question for 2013
I look forward to examining our industry with you, please remember how valuable your information is and take part in the survey once it is live!

AUGI 2012 Salary Survey is Revamped!

Posted on 10:40 by Unknown

As promised last year, I decided to take a fresh look at the AUGI Salary Survey this time around. The questions hadn't changed much from the original format I inherited when I started with the 3rd survey, so the whole thing was pretty much scrapped, and we've started with a clean slate.
I appreciate all of the input from fellow AUGI members, as well as my instructors and professors at SLU.

This year's survey consists of 24 questions, roughly broken down into four areas:
Your demographic
Your role
Your company demographic
Your industry's state

As always, this is an anonymous survey. I am the only one who will ever have access to the database of individual entries, the answers cannot be tied back to you or your company in any way, and the information will only be reported in broad groups.

I did bring back some popular questions that will enable us to trend back for a couple of years. But, there will also be some new questions to help focus on the state of our industries.

Did you receive an increase or decrease in pay? Are you thinking about leaving your job? If so, why?
What market does your company serve or how do they specialize? Has your workload increased or decreased this year? Has your outsourcing increased or decreased this year? Have you let subscriptions lapse or purchased new software and hardware? What percentage of your projects are BIM, and, if you are doing BIM, why? Is cloud computing a go or no-go? How did you find your current role, through networking or advertising?

The AUGI Annual Salary Survey is about so much more than just salaries.
BUT! Of course, we all need to participate in order to have data from which we can draw valid conclusions about which industries are performing the best, which have the happiest and most secure employees and so much more.

Application Engineers, Programmers, Architects, Designers, Managers and Coordinators (CAD/BIM/Project, etc), Drafters, Trainers, Interns, etc... speak and be heard!

The survey ends August 4th, get your answers in now and see the results in the September 2012 issue of AUGIWorld Magazine!!!

2011 AUGI Salary Survey - Additional Salary Resources

Posted on 14:00 by Unknown

It's that time again... the AUGI Annual Salary Survey.
2011 marks the 10th anniversary of the survey!
If you would like to see how much drafters, designers, architects, engineers, project managers, bim managers, cad managers and more earn, check out pages 6-13 of the September 2011 issue of AUGIWorld Magazine.

Additionally, some of you might want to check out the Revit API column in this month's issue. Elizabeth Connor did some research and conducted interviews to put together some insightful commentary on how BIM has affected job prospects and pay in the architectural field in her article "Up Next: Your Architecture Career, 3.0."

Additional resources:

As always, I encourage everyone to use multiple resources when determining their professional worth. What is a good hourly wage? What is a respectable salary? How does the pay vary between industries, locations, job levels, company sizes and other factors? No one single source is going to give you all of the answers you're looking for, and a single source might not convince your superiors during review time, so, go in well armed with plenty of information.

Just for CAD/BIM types:
AUGI Salary Survey - trade organization polls it's members annually on their current pay and other factors

CAD Manager's Survey - annual survey of CAD Managers conducted by Robert Green and published by CADalyst magazine

General Salary Information:
Indeed - job posting search engine estimates salaries based upon current job advertisements

NACE Salary Calculator - Uses filtering technologies, based on information from the US government sources such as the DOL, BLS, Census, etc.

PayScale Cost of Living Calculator - that one is pretty self-explanatory

Salary.com - I don't tend to like the job titles offered for comparison to my search terms, but, it is a well-known site

CareerBliss - user-submitted salary results by company and job title

Wolfram Alpha - a computational engine that has an answer for just about anything

Seek - "the Great Australian Paycheck Report"

Industry-specific:
EETimes Global Salary and Opinion Survey - annual poll of electronics design engineers, design managers, technologists and business leaders

Architect Annual Salary Survey - magazine of the AIA

Facility Management Salary Database - FacilitiesNet salary filtering for CAFM-related professions

Do you have some industry-specific sources of salary information? Please share them...

We can do better, folks - Salary Survey closes August 19th

Posted on 08:32 by Unknown
http://www.augi.com/surveys/take-the-current-survey/salary-survey-2011/

http://www.augi.com/surveys/salary-survey-results/salary-survey-questions-and-faqs/

As it stands right now, here are the Salary Survey response numbers for the past 10 years.

I realize some participation has probably dropped off due to layoffs, but, with so many AUGI members out there (and people who haven't yet joined), we can surely drum up some more responses before the survey closes tomorrow night.
This has always been a community effort folks, and the 10's of thousands of people who will download these survey results should be participating. As always, results are collected without being connected to usernames, and I am the only person who ever touches the raw data, data will be published in broad groups only.

Here is a snapshot of replies so far, is your industry underrepresented?

Mine is... when I realized how badly, I hit the Facilities Management discussion forums and shot off a few emails, encouraging my peers to take part.

The 10th Annual AUGI Salary Survey closes tomorrow. Please take the survey by tomorrow night (August 19th, 2011) and encourage your peers to do the same.

Thank you for contributing to the community! The results will be printed in AUGIworld Magazine next month.

10th Annual AUGI Salary Survey

Posted on 10:25 by Unknown
It's already that time again (and I, for one, cannot believe it). The AUGI Annual Salary Survey... and not just any annual... but, our 10th run!

Drafters, Designers, Architects, Engineers, Trainers, Surveyors, etc from all industries can volunteer a little bit of information to give the AUGI community meaningful data for an idea of salaries (pay/wages/rates), benefits, job satisfaction and more.

As reported at the top of the survey form, the results of this survey will be published in the September issue of AUGIWorld Magazine.
If you'd like to know more, please read the AUGI Salary Survey Frequently Asked Questions page.

Click here to take the 2011 survey (sorry, you do need to be logged in, so that we can make sure folks aren't skewing the results by answering multiple times).

Here is a snapshot from the 2010 AUGI Annual Salary Survey , which shows the type of users who participated. Don't think your industry is very well-represented? Please share the link with some colleagues and ask them to take part.

A couple of fast stats from the 2010 survey:
  • The number of BIM Managers doubled from 2009 to 2010
  • Sadly enough, the number of members receiving a reduction in pay quintupled
  • The highest paying industry was Petroleum/Gas/Biofuels
  • 74% of respondents felt their job was Secure
  • Women make up 16.5% of respondents

Salary Survey Results - 9th Annual AUGI Survey

Posted on 07:21 by Unknown
The fall issue of AUGIWorld Magazine is out, and with it, the results of the 9th Annual AUGI Salary Survey.
Drafters, designers, architects, engineers, project managers, programmers and more chimed in. I appreciate those that participated, so we can report on your data. Thank you!

You can find the Salary Survey issue of AUGIWorld Magazine here.

You may have noticed the CAD Manager's column in this issue as well (at least, I hope you did). I was lucky enough to be able to sit down with CADDManager/BIMManager Mark Kiker, a couple of months ago, and we chatted about all sorts of interesting things. Here are links to the podcasts he mentions (the links are also available in his column through the above link).

Finding a Design Job - Part 1
-- Where to look for job postings (and the importance of following basic guidelines)
Finding a Design Job - Part 2
-- The process of the salary survey and how to use information from many sources to get the best overall picture
Finding a Design Job - Part 3
-- A discussion on networking (the importance and benefits of giving as well as receiving)
Finding a Design Job - Part 4
-- How good practices with resumes and cover letters can get your foot in the door
Finding a Design Job - Part 5
-- Interviewing skills (finding out if you're a good fit for a job)
Finding a Design Job - Part 6
-- Increasing your visibility and marketability (presentation, public speaking, your internet presence)

AND, since you all know by now what a big proponent I am of getting your job and salary information from multiple sources, I'd like to ask you to take a minute to participate in the CAD Manager's Survey from Robert Green.

CAD Managers Not Optimistic

Posted on 13:01 by Unknown
Robert Green recently conducted a survey to gauge the state of the economy according to the CAD Manager.

See his article: Survey: CAD Managers Reveal Effects of the Economy, Part 1

This is a followup survey to one he conducted in February (Results Part 1 and Part 2), so he can compare how things have changed since then.

Here are some quick highlights, please follow the link to the original article for Robert's more in-depth analysis and some charts:

There were 405 responses worldwide.

40% of respondents have had their pay cut or frozen (although he estimates that 15% of CAD Managers have been laid off this year).

Only 10% report being busy with work, and 65% report recent layoffs.

Only 7% of the respondents are really optimistic about the year ahead.

New BIM Magazine from AUGI

Posted on 07:21 by Unknown
Alright, looks like the AEC crowd has a new magazine from AUGI (I believe that, if it does well, they will look into branching out into other disciplines).

We're just starting to use Revit here on my campus, and, coming from the Engineering group, we're interested in MEPFP content mainly, and I'm thrilled to see that the debut issue of "AEC Edge" doesn't just focus on the Architectural industry.
They're talking Architectural models, IPD (integrated project delivery), Training, Implementation, Coordinate Systems, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing building systems), Structural, Analysis, education and API. Loads of content.

Don't take my word for it, check out the Table of Contents below, then download the current issue (available in the interactive format AND pdf).

Also, please don't forget, TODAY is the last day to participate in the 2009 AUGI Annual Salary Survey! Just 19 short questions, it will take about 5 minutes (there's a link to a currency convertor for any non-US folks who want to participate, I LOVE international participation!), results will be presented in broad categories in AUGIWorld Magazine this fall. If you've already participated, please, feel free to send the link to your colleagues and invite them to take part as well.

CAD/Design/Architecture/Engineering Annual Salary Survey Running Now!

Posted on 17:48 by Unknown

AUGI is currently running the 2009 Annual Salary Survey!

COMPLETE THE SURVEY BY JUNE THE 30th.

Which means that your peers need YOU to log in and report your views. We call this a survey because that's precisely what we're doing. We're collecting information from the members to compile and share back with the members. What a great idea!

But, unfortunately, only about 10% of our membership takes part each year, which limits the amount of meaningful data that I've got to work with. Remember, every little bit helps. Speak for your industry!

The survey results will be released in AUGIWorld Magazine this fall.

Of course, if you have any concerns about participating in this anonymous survey or have questions about any of it, be sure to check out the updated FAQ. And the 'F' in FAQ, REALLY means FREQUENTLY. Frequently Asked Questions

I did get feedback from our members last year and, as usual, I have made a couple small changes.
Many "Thanks" to those folks who truly appreciate all of the volunteer time spent on this and tell me about how our survey has benefited you. That's what AUGI is all about, users helping users, and I love to know when you've benefited.

Feel free to check out the results from the 2008 Survey which include: the Salary Survey article and charts from AUGIWorld Magazine, the FAQ document (which includes a listing of all questions asked on the survey, frequently asked questions), a Podcast (mp3 containing survey observations and tips on asking for a raise) and a spreadsheet containing various comparisons and rankings between each discipline/industry.

This survey isn't only about how much money people are earning, it's a pulse in our industry... we can watch trends such as more firms adopting BIM Managers, and more folks retiring and more folks taking pay and hour cuts. I'm very curious to see this year's results and I hope you'll all participate.

Oh, ~sigh~ and just to be one step ahead of the curve... if you frequent other CAD sites, you might have noticed last year that there were a couple of users (one in particular who posted under a couple of other names) who... theorized and then 'spread the word' a bit last year that AUGI or I are benefiting somehow by selling the information we're gathering... which is, of course, a completely fabricated theory. Nothing is done with this survey outside of the results posted on AUGI's website, the results are not tied to user names and I have no way of finding out who reported what and no way to monetize the information. We require a log in to prevent people from flooding the survey with results that might skew the numbers.

And, as always, AUGI is nothing without it's users, so I really hope that you could spare a couple of minutes of your time to chime in with your $0.02 and provide one more salary and industry resource for the community. Thank you for your time!

Gauging the Economic Impact with CAD Managers

Posted on 09:36 by Unknown
Obviously there has been quite a bit going on in the economy since the last AUGI Salary Survey and CAD Manager Survey were taken in 2008.

Robert Green has decided to do a quick update on his survey in order to see how folks have been affected.

If you haven't already, please pop over and take two minutes to fill out the CAD Manager Survey Update, reporting how your company is faring in this economy. He'll post the results in the next CAD Manager's Newsletter.

(I don't currently have any plans to conduct the AUGI Salary Survey early, it is scheduled to run in the fall, as it was last year. If you have any questions or suggestions as to questions you think I should add, please feel free to contact me after reading the current list of questions in the FAQ)

CAD Manager Survey 2008

Posted on 06:07 by Unknown
Now that I've asked you to take part in the AUGI Annual Salary Survey (for all job titles and all disciplines) and you've given such a great response, I'm going to encourage you to take part in Robert Green's CAD Manager 2008 Survey (if applicable).

He does a great job with this every year, and his results are one of the multiple resources that I keep handy to analyze how competitive my pay is.

The results of my Salary Survey come out in the September/October edition of AUGIWorld Magazine, and the results of Robert's CAD Manager Survey will be in the November issue of CADalyst Magazine (You can find additional results respectively on the AUGI Survey Channel and in the October and November issues of the CAD Manager's newsletter).

From the CAD Manager's Newsletter:

Thanks to all the readers who sent in their comments regarding the survey. I've incorporated a number of questions into this year's survey to reflect reader concerns!

Now the fun begins: Participate in the survey! Forward this newsletter to everyone you know who functions as a CAD manager and ask them to participate. I'm especially interested in getting responses from Canada, European Union countries, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand because these markets haven't been analyzed as completely as I'd like.

To take the survey, just click on this link: http://www.cad-manager.com/survey

Results will be published in the November issue of Cadalyst magazine, and more detailed analysis will be included in CAD Manager's Newsletter in October and November, so be sure to check back!

Salary Survey Participation Numbers - Update

Posted on 06:45 by Unknown
This year's AUGI Salary Survey run is officially over!

The numbers are in and I've post an updated participation chart below.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the nearly 6,000 participants this year!
Many of my peers suggested that participation levels might drop significantly this year, due to the downturn in some sectors of the US building industry, but, the numbers are fairly steady. We'll see if the demographics have changed much once the results are in.

The initial survey results article will be posted in the August/September issue of AUGIWorld Magazine, with further breakdowns to be posted to the web. I did get a lot of good feedback on the podcast I did last year, so I intend to do a follow-up this year.
Don't forget, about the time our survey comes out, Robert Green will be conducting his annual CAD Manager's survey; after you take part, you can find the results through CADalyst.

Ours is a somewhat unique survey in regards to the information that we collect and present, and I am happy to give a bit of support in your review of job conditions.
But, as always, I recommend at least three supporting sources when asking for a raise, so be sure to get your vague, but, geographically representative number from www.salary.com and see what you can find from www.indeed.com/salary (their numbers are based on currently posted job openings). If you can find any resources specific to your industry, I'd encourage you to include them as well, if they apply to you.

And instructors, and those looking to change industries, be sure to check out the field comparison document which will illustrate differences in job satisfaction levels and employee perceptions of job security.

OT: Really staying busy

Posted on 10:12 by Unknown
Well, it's been a busy time in the Perry household.

We were thrilled to have hosted our dear friends Bill and Karen from Australia for a week. It's fun playing tourist here in St. Louis, especially in the beautiful springtime.

While at Grant's Farm, we did get caught in a pretty heinous downpour. But, rather than run for the meager shelter with the rest of the human cattle, we stayed standing below the umbrellas on the dining tables. Offspring Alpha, having been placed standing on the table by Bill, stayed pretty dry with the exception of his feet. Alas, we adults were cursed with soaked backsides. But, at least we had some breathing room. I always love feeding the baby goats and watching the other animals on the farm (some animals from each continent, except Antarctica).

Their tour included the Arch, the floods, the St. Louis Zoo, the Science Center, Antonio Winery and Schlafly bottleworks as well as some of our favorite restaurants. We also spent some much-needed relaxation time at home with them. Gosh, what big kids we all are!

Mike and I got to see Offspring Beta for the first time via Ultrasound two weeks ago. MAN has that technology gotten even more impressive in the five years since I first saw Alpha in his! Oh, and of course, this means TWO BOYS! A girl would have been lovely, too, but, I have so much fun with our son that I'm really looking forward to another.

I recently started a new course in my Bachelor's studies at SLU (they're compressed classes, one four-hour course per week for nine weeks). It's technically a Biology course, but, with more of a medical slant, since most of my classmates are in the medical field. It's about how cultural and ethnic differences can affect the care medical workers give to patients and how patients communicate with their caregivers. Really thought-provoking. I'm in the midst of doing a group project with a couple of sharp women from the group. It's a challenging class, but, I really like it.

Mike has also been insanely busy with his work with the AUGI Board, and just returned yesterday from his tri-annual face-to-face meeting with the other volunteering BoDs. It's obviously good to have him back home helping to keep things running smoothly.

Oh, and thanks to those friends who saw my interview in the June issues of CADalyst Magazine about online networking in the design world and gave me positive feedback about it. Obviously it's an interesting subject that is changing the way that we work (especially how we find work).

Also, the Salary Survey is ending right now, so I'll be delving into that starting tomorrow and will be immersed in it for the next couple of months.

And, St. Louis is getting another CAD Camp this year (September 23rd), so keep an eye out to see when classes are posted and registration opens up (don't forget, in year's past, you could get the cost of your CAD Camp discounted off of your Autodesk University registration fee).

If you're interested in all of the little things going on in the CAD world, check out all of the announcements, press releases, favorite resources, etc that I post for the benefit of the Gateway AUG in their discussion group.

I'm also busy tackling some other things in my personal life, so it's really never a dull moment with us.

That's okay, evidently, that's the way that I like it.

Cheers!

Salary Survey Participation Numbers

Posted on 10:11 by Unknown
Well, as we all should know, the Annual Salary Survey is getting close to the end of it's run (so be sure to take part within the next 5 days!)

I thought it might be fun to take a peek back at the participation numbers over the years:

2002: 1,629
2003: 1,271
2004: 3,259
2005: 6,026
2006: 7,830
2007: 6,721
2008: ?,???

Those are some pretty impressive numbers there, but I'm sure that, with your help, we can do even better here in 2008.

Remember that the results will be available in the September/October 2008 issue of AUGIWorld Magazine and additional results will be added soon after to the Survey channel of the AUGI site.

CAD/Design/Architecture/Engineering Salary Survey

Posted on 09:14 by Unknown
AUGI is currently running the 2008 Annual Salary Survey!

Normally we do this survey in the fall and publish the results in the first issue of the following year. While each company may be slightly different, many will hand out raises and bonuses at the end of the year. So, in order that you can have as many resources as possible at your disposal before then, we're running this survey in June, so that it can be published in the fall.

Of course, if you have any concerns about participating in this anonymous survey or have questions about any of it, be sure to check out the updated FAQ. And the 'F' in FAQ, REALLY means FREQUENTLY. I receive emails about this survey all year round, and if folks would take the time to read the Frequently Asked Questions document, they wouldn't need to waste their time contacting me.

I did get more constructive suggestions than ever last year and, as usual, I have made changes based on the well thought out requests from our members who are interested in helping me improve what we're offering.
Many "Thanks" to those folks who truly appreciate all of my volunteer time on this and tell me about how our survey has benefited you. That's what AUGI is all about, users helping users.

Check out the results from the 2007 Survey which include: the Salary Survey article and charts from AUGIWorld Magazine, the FAQ document (which includes a listing of all questions asked on the survey, frequently asked questions and other salary sites), a Podcast (mp3 containing survey observations and tips on asking for a raise), a spreadsheet containing various comparisons and rankings between each discipline/industry as well as individual downloads providing more information on each industry/field by themselves.

BIM Manager - What's the Deal?

Posted on 05:33 by Unknown
A term that's appearing a lot these days in the design world is BIM Manager.
How is that different from a CAD Manager? How vital is the role that they play? How much money can they expect to earn?

Well, as we all know... information is only as important as what you do with it.
Do you keep it up to date?
Can everyone find it?
Is it accurate?
Is it being passed along to everyone who needs it in a usable form?

Check out the following commentary and see what others have to say (and, I have to admit, it's difficult to find BIM Management articles, since when you google... you mostly find job advertisements for this in-demand hot job)...

The Importance of a BIM Manager in a Firm - Architectural Graphics Standards Blog
The New 'Must Have' - The BIM Manager - Dominic Gallello (via AECBytes)

Mark Kiker announced on the CADD Manager blog that he requested teach a course on Defining a BIM Manager and their duties at AU2008.

Read the BIM Manager Blog by David Kingham.

Job Descriptions:
If you really want to know what BIM Managers are doing, check out the job advertisements, Indeed.com alone shows over 260 active advertisements at the time of my search.

Wages/Salaries:
You can also check out the estimated salary here (around $80,000 usd).

According to the 109 BIM Managers who took part in the AUGI Salary Survey in 2007, their average wages were about $62,000usd (this survey is worldwide, whereas Indeed.com's only refers to positions posted in the US)
We're running this anonymous survey again next month, please take part (June 1st - 31st, 2008).

CAD/Design/Engineering/Architecture Salary Survey 2007 Available!

Posted on 19:43 by Unknown
Looks like the 2007 Annual AUGI Salary Survey is all live and raring to go!

AUGIWorld Magazine

CAD/Design Salary Information

Posted on 18:29 by Unknown
The Autodesk User's Group International is running it's Annual CAD/Design Salary Survey right now.

The information gathered will be printed in the January/February issue of the free bi-monthly AUGIWorld Magazine.

*The point of this post is to solicit more respondents for our survey.* We need user input to provide the results of this survey!

To find out more, please read the FAQ in the www.AUGI.com/surveys area, here are some highlights:

Is the survey anonymous?
--YES, it is totally anonymous... But, yes, you are required to login with your free augi member account in order to participate in and read the results of the survey. The login is mandatory so that we can be sure no one is skewing the results of the survey by taking it multiple times.
--But, NO, there is no way for ME, the Salary Survey Manager, to link any single line of data in my spreadsheet to an individual user

What is the purpose of the survey?
--To reveal average salaries for many job titles
--To indicate which fields pay the most
--To indicate which disciplines have the greatest levels of job security and job satisfaction
--To show how certain things affect pay (world region, level of experience, education received, gender, etc)
--To gauge the health of the building/design market

Is it a query-able survey like Salary.com?
--No. You have to pick all categories applicable to you and average them out yourself. Sorry.

PLEASE, take 5 minutes out of your day and participate. We've got 6 more days left (survey ends October 31st), and we're still about 1,800 responses fewer than last year. I know this issue of AUGIWorld is popular and constantly downloaded, so please do your part and provide a little information for others to share.

Fellow bloggers and networkers of any ilk, I'd really appreciate it if you could remind your buds about this chance to contribute!

2005 - http://www.augi.com/surveys/default.asp?page=1053
(must be logged in to access the archives - don't forget to read the FAQ, it also contains a list of the questions asked)

Thank you to those who have and will participate, we're all volunteers trying to provide resources to one another, and you guys are the ones who really make this possible.

Cheers!

Cast your vote! Autocad, Revit Architecture, Civil3d and Inventor

Posted on 06:52 by Unknown
Alright, I'm back from my two-week sabbatical.

Prior to leaving for vacation, I had a great CAD Camp experience, yet again. One of the highlights was when I got to chat again with Robert Green briefly about his recently wrapped up
CAD Manager Survey and our ongoing AUGI Salary Survey. I loved my classes, those guys put on a great day of training; thanks to Matt, David, Robert, Dan, Melody, etc, and those from SV and Hagerman who organized this day. MUCH better venue and MUCH MUCH better catering than last year's event... luckily, same great instruction and networking.

Kudos to David and Matt who presented at the user group meetings the evening before, and to Seiler, Hagerman and D3 who sponsored our food and drink and gave out nice pressies (Pat Stack is my hero with the Starbuck's card, I must admit).

NOW, on to the point of my post! It's wishlist time... users make wishes in their AUGI Product Community, then their peers comment on them, then their peers vote on them, then their AUGI Volunteers pass the wishes directly on to Autodesk who usually implements them. Wowee.

autocad http://www.augi.com/autocad/ballot.asp
revit architecture http://www.augi.com/revit/ballot.asp
civil 3d http://www.augi.com/civil3d/ballot.asp
inventor http://www.augi.com/inventor/ballot.asp

And, since you're up there sharing your opinions on product improvements, why not pop over and vote for a design to adorn the shirts of the AUGI Top DAUG participants at this year's Autodesk University?

Now, about my lovely vacation... two weeks spent with my fabulous family and some wonderful friends... it couldn't have been more perfect. We had really good weather, even better food, and even more spectacularly fun conversations. Ireland is just as green and beautiful as I remember it, and springing up with more building and roadworks, England was lovely and historic, but, positively BRISTLING with cranes and other evidence of massive building projects.
We got to visit Leed's and Hever castles and while they were lovely and enjoyable, they couldn't hold a candle to the awe-inspiring St. Paul's and Canterbury Cathedrals. Not only are they gorgeous buildings whose designs we studied and admired, they're also a step directly into the past.
We had great weather for our viewing from the London Eye to take in Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, the Omnimax at the Science Museum (my husband worked on that :-D), St. Paul's, the Thames, Tower Bridge, etc, etc, etc. Oh, and we also had curry, twice... yeah, we had fish and chips, too, but, our crew was definitely more excited about the fine Indian food. :-)
